Happy Birthday Angus!

We celebrated Angus's birthday which is very fitting as Angus shares his most senior moment to date, and he offers words of wisdom regarding busyness and the perils of becoming overly focused on checking off your To-Dos.   If you are interested in the New Year program 2020 INSIGHT we mentioned, here is the link: https://barbarapatterson.com/insight/   Angus & Rohini Ross are "the Rewilders". They love working with couples and helping them to reduce conflict and discord in their relationships by opening them up to their innate vitality and resilience. They work with couples who are struggling and couples who would like to deepen...

Stress and Relationships

Angus and I were both really looking forward to the Soul-Centered Series starting, and we have both had more on our minds than usual as we prepared for it. In the past, this would have resulted in us having a blowout! Fortunately, this didn't happen this time.   This difference is we each found our own way to be more comfortable with our human experience of nerves and anxiety. This was topped off by me waking up to the smell of smoke at 5:30 this morning, but once I ascertained there was no immediate danger or requirement to prepare for evacuation I...

Yes And Is Good For Relationships!

Angus and I had a lot of fun at an improv class. It was a great metaphor for life. I got to see how sometimes it is invisible to me that I am leading with a no rather than an open mind. This is so helpful to recognize because conversations go so much better when I have an open mind that is a reflection of the yes and motto in improv. Relationships and life are more fun that way!   Angus & Rohini Ross are "the Rewilders". They love working with couples and helping them to reduce conflict and discord in their...

The Sneakiness of Busyness and Self-Importance

I’m back in LA enjoying a cozy rainy day after participating in Barb Patterson’s Business Accelerator program. The experience was a great example of what is possible when one is willing to step into the unknown and see what emerges from a clean slate. To say I was surprised by what came forward is an understatement.   I went in knowing something felt off regarding my work, but I had no idea what. As Angus and I explored our ideas related to helping couples rewild their relationships everything felt fresh and alive. We are committed to moving forward with the book....

For Optimum Performance — Forget About Yourself

I was having a conversation about an upcoming three-day leadership development training and during the conversation, I was reminded that the executives are human just like the rest of us. In another conversation with the owner of a company, he affirmed the importance of everyone being of equal value in the organizational culture no matter what their position.   Both of these conversations reminded me of the value of remembering not only do we all work the same way, but we also come from the same source. There is no hierarchy when it comes to our humanness. The ordinariness of our commonality...

Angus is Losing His Marbles but Feeling More Peaceful

Angus' absent-mindedness takes a new form. Luckily I see the funny side, and we are both grateful for the greater level of peace we are experiencing in our relationship. This is not the result of us working on our relationship. It is simply the by-product of us seeing how we can let go and let life live us.   Rohini and Angus are both coaches. They work with individuals, leaders, and organizations to increase performance and success. They also love working with couples and helping them reduce conflict and discord so they can experience more love and harmony in their relationships. They...

The Best Results Come From Our Natural State

Angus has some trouble getting his words out but does a little dance to loosen himself up. When he finally does get his words out he has a good point. Wellbeing is the new differentiator for the England football team. The coach is seeing how when the players are having fun and enjoying life this impacts their performance. So even though the current team isn’t as good as the previous team on paper, they are performing better as a result of this new culture of fun and wellbeing. This applies to all of us. We are our best selves when...

Letting Life Live You: Less Suffering More Possibility

There has been a lot going on recently. Being evacuated and not knowing if the wildfire was going to spread to our neighborhood. The death of a client. Getting sick. Feeling the loss of our dog Bella as at the one year anniversary of her death. But I wasn’t suffering. Even when I was experiencing excruciating pain with a UTI, I noticed I could be with the pain and not suffer.  Previously it would have taken much less for me to be suffering.   There is a quote by Haruki Murakami related to marathon running where he says, “Pain is inevitable, suffering...

Freedom from Suffering

As soon as I feel the internal pressure to be special or better than, I know I am feeling the opposite -- not special, not good enough. Feelings of unworthiness can be so painful, and there are so many ways to try and escape these feelings. Trying to prove our worthiness by being better than. Numbing out from the pain by using coping mechanisms.   Psychology tells us the problem is an issue that needs to be resolved, but there is no gold to be mined there only an infinite amount of issues that will need fixing. Instead, less suffering is the...

Spaciousness is Good for the Soul

October was a busy month. Barb Patterson and I enjoyed another very inspiring Engaged Space. The Soul-Centered Series started. There was a visit to our eldest daughter in college for Family Weekend, an amazing Business Summit in Portland, three corporate trainings, and client intensives.   What I am so grateful for is that with all of this going on my stress levels have been low. I have eaten candy this month, but that is because we bought Halloween candy early to be prepared. This was a very bad idea because then we had to buy more candy for Halloween. But other than...
